The McGill Martlets-Toronto Varsity Blues match-up Thursday was more than a battle between two of the top teams in women's university hockey. It was a duel of the best goalies in Canada. Unfortunately for McGill's medal hopes, Alison Houston came out on top of Olympian Kim St-Pierre.

The awards keep rolling in for the McGill hockey Martlets. Goaltender Kim St-Pierre was named player of the year in Canadian university hockey during an awards gala held Wednesday. Martlets head coach Peter Smith shared CIS coach of the year honours with Lisa MacDonald of Saint Mary's University.

SWIMMING CIS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP McGill swim team head coach François Laurin might think about seeking employment at Jo-Jo's Psychic Hotline. "The men are aiming for third place at nationals and the women would like sixth place," said Laurin before McGill headed to Victoria for the Canadian Interuniversity championship.

McGill poised for CIS championship

TRACK AND FIELD QSSF CHAMPIONSHIP University of Windsor will welcome the top Canadian university track and field athletes March 13-15, including several of McGill's brightest stars. Led by four-time All-Canadian Sarah Ali-Kahn, the Martlets won their fifth Quebec title in nine years at Sherbrooke last weekend.

HOCKEY CIS CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW The rush for gold begins Thursday for the McGill hockey Martlets. According to head coach Peter Smith, McGill has an excellent opportunity to come home from Regina as national champions, a distinction that has eluded the team in three previous appearances.

Goaltender Kim St-Pierre has been the story in most games for the McGill hockey Martlets this season, but another hero emerged Friday night. Freshman Brittany Privée scored the game-winning goal at 12:19 of the third period and added an insurance marker five minutes later, pacing McGill to a 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
