University fails to live up to promises made last year

Private food service provider Chartwells has added another campus eatery to its ever-expanding ranks. On September 1, the company assumed operation of the McGill Bookstore's second-floor café from the university's Department of Food Services. "Chartwells is a nationwide food service provider that is better equipped to manage the café," said Manager Jackie Mersereau.

Voter registration deadline looms for American students

Absentee ballot request must be mailed by tomorrow

As varying deadlines for registering to vote absentee approach, the 1,500-plus Americans at McGill must decide whether they will have their say in the November presidential election. According to Democrats Abroad, an organization of Democratic Party members living outside the United States, Americans residing in foreign countries should mail in their Federal Postcard Application (FPCA) by tomorrow.

One afternoon last semester, students were lunching on the usual cafeteria fare of spring rolls and club sandwiches on the second floor of the Shatner University Centre when a fire alarm went off. A student who uses a motorized wheelchair tried to evacuate by crossing into the Brown building from Shatner.

On Thursday nights, students line up outside Gert's Pub in the basement of the Shatner University Centre, jockeying for a spot on the crowded guest list. Most other nights, however, students have no trouble finding a table. In Montreal, a city known for its nightlife, most McGill students choose to venture off campus and enjoy the best the city has to offer.

SSMU sets up sandwich service

A new student-run catering service will fill the void left in students' stomachs by Pita Pit's departure from the basement of the Shatner University Centre. Pita Pit occupied a space in Gert's Pub for two years, during which time the Students' Society collected a commission.

New bike-share program in the works

The Students' Society and the McGill Environmental Office are collaborating on a plan to provide a bike-share system on the downtown campus. Once bicycle stations are set up at various locations on campus, students and staff will be able to sign a bicycle out for a certain period of time so that they can get around in an easy and environmentally-friendly way.
