After a recent visit to Iraq, U.S. President George W. Bush announced that he and Mrs. Bush intend to buy a luxury condominium in the Iraq Green Zone after his term in office expires. The announcement came days after Halliburton revealed its plans to build Freedom Towers, a high-security complex that boasts lifestyle condominiums.
"I was just sooo impressed by the pioneering spirit of the hard working Americans living in the Green Zone, and I want to be a part of that spirit," drawled Bush at a recent Washington press conference. "It's the kind of frontier that our forefathers tamed out in the Wild West many years ago and also a bit like the New Frontier in space. Maybe we can call it the 'Evil East Frontier!'"
Bush said he was surprised to see so few Iraqis living in a prosperous, tranquil place like the Green Zone, but chalked it up to ingratitude.
"We've managed to make this little piece of Baghdad a microcasm of the grand 'ol U. S. of A. Y'all need to check it out. There's a spankin' brand new Wal-Mart on the corner of Habibi Avenue...Did I pronounce microcasm all right?" Bush asked. Yet, rolling his eyes, he added: "I just don't think the Iraqis realize how great it is, or the debt of gratitude they owe to the American people," he said.
Homemakers and celebrity decorators alike will be excited to learn that Laura Bush is already picking out the furniture for her future crib in the Middle East. The McGill Enquirer's sources reveal that she recently told friends she was getting bored with the White House's "sterile" decor and is looking forward to choosing a colour scheme that reflects the action-packed atmosphere of the battlefield. Apparently, she's trying to decide between a khaki green divan with rounded edges and a more mod sofa with aluminum accents for her dressing room.
"We just can't wait to fill up Georgie-poo's artillery room," Mrs. Bush told the McGill Enquirer in a recent interview. "Dick and Dubya have a lot of hunting days ahead of them in Baghdad." She intends to show off her husband's game on the living room wall. "It'll give our home that nice 'frontier' touch," she said.

Sirs:
This tongue-in-cheek bagatelle is obviously a creative reconstruction of comments not actually written down. Nonetheless, it wouldn't surprise me if the reality of condos in the Green Zone did approximate your projection. (Continued…)

The market for green zone housing is exploding, despite the fact that insurance companies will not cover "acts of Allah".

This is new to me. Little did I know this kind of place still exist in Iraq despite the fact that the place was once in chaos. It's good to hear that they were able to get back to normal and were able to build luxury condos. (Continued…)
